In 1924, famed magician Harry Houdini visited a strange California mansion on Halloween night hoping to debunk the paranormal rumors surrounding it. Instead, he left with more questions than answers, famously calling it “The Mystery House.” Built under the guidance of a spiritual medium, the sprawling Victorian estate underwent nonstop construction from 1886 until the owner’s death in 1922, when all work abruptly ceased. The labyrinthine home became infamous for its bizarre architecture, featuring staircases and doors that lead nowhere, hidden passageways, decoy bathrooms meant to confuse spirits, and countless rooms designed to disorient both the living and the dead. The owner herself reportedly slept in a different room every night until her passing.
Whether haunted by spirits or simply the fears of those who enter it, the house remains one of America’s most chilling legends. This Victorian house charm features glowing red crystal eyes peering from the windows, warning all visitors to beware.
